Rotator Cuff Tears

A rotator cuff tear is a common shoulder injury that can happen during even the most routine activities — whether your job involves manual labor or less strenuous shoulder movement. Ed Overland, a firefighter in Oak Park, Illinois, suffered an on-the-job rotator cuff injury due to the strains of his work. As he was reloading a fire hose, an activity he has done numerous times before, he experienced a burst of pain that lasted about 60-90 seconds. As he tried to reload another fire hose, the pain flared up again. He knew something was wrong, and fearing his injury would worsen over time, he quickly sought help.

Efficient, Expert Treatment

Ed contacted Dr. Anthony Romeo and was able to have his shoulder examined and the injury was properly diagnosed as a rotator cuff tear. Dr. Anthony Romeo discovered that Ed had suffered tears to three of the rotator cuff tendons and determined the injury would require surgery. The surgery was done arthroscopically to minimize damage to normal tissue and help Ed get back to his day-to-day living as quickly as possible.

Ed noticed the pain was gone the first day after the surgery. He returned to full use of his shoulder and arm within the prescribed recovery time. After just 6 months of recovery, Ed was back fighting fires without missing a step.

Ed initially sought out Dr. Anthony Romeo because of his reputation, but he found that it was really Dr. Anthony Romeo’s positivity and personal attention that made Ed feel at ease. “I’m glad I went to Dr. Anthony Romeo,” Ed told Living Healthy Chicago. “I think he’s a very good doctor. I would recommend him to anybody.”
